What is JEE Advanced?

Only candidates who qualify JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. The exam is organized by one of the IITs each year, with IIT Kanpur responsible for conducting JEE Advanced 2025. Who Will Conduct JEE Main and Advanced 2025?

While JEE Main is conducted by the NTA, JEE Advanced is organized by one of the IITs on a rotational basis. The specific IIT responsible for conducting JEE Advanced 2025 has not yet been officially announced. Students can apply for the NTA's Joint Entrance Exam (Main) 2025 if they have passed or are taking their Class 12 exams. IIT Kanpur is expected to administer JEE Advanced 2025. Candidates may apply for the JEE Advanced exam if they place in the top 2.5 lakh and pass JEE Main 2025.

Eligibility Criteria 2025

Securing a good rank in JEE Main 2025 is crucial, as it is the first step towards being eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Performance in JEE Main 2025: Candidates must be among the top 250,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE (Main) 2025.
  • The percentages of various categories to be shortlisted are: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all.
  • Within each of these five categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates. Horizontal reservation ensures that PwD candidates have a fair chance of securing a seat, regardless of their category. This means that a certain percentage of seats within each category (GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, OPEN) are reserved for PwD candidates.
• Age Limit: Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2000. SC, ST, and PwD candidates have a five-year age relaxation.  
• Appearance in Class XII Examination: Candidates should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2024 or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.  
• Number of Attempts : Candidates are allowed a maximum of two attempts in two consecutive years for the JEE Advanced examination. This is a revision from the previous criteria of "thrice in three consecutive years".
• Performance in Class XII Examination: Candidates must have passed class XII (or equivalent) with a minimum of five subjects and secured at least 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates).  Candidates must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination. The percentile calculation will be done for all the required subjects in a single academic year only.  
• Registration Dates: The registration period for JEE Advanced 2025 is from April 23, 2025 (10:00 IST) to May 2, 2025 (23:59 IST), with the last date for fee payment being May 5, 2025 (23:59 IST).   
• Fees : The registration fees for different categories are as follows:
  • Female and SC/ST: Rs 1600
  • Other Categories: Rs 3200
  • Candidates from SAARC countries: USD 100
  • Candidates from Non-SAARC countries: USD 200  

Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Nationals

Foreign national candidates must meet a distinct set of JEE Advanced 2025 qualifying requirements. Candidates who are not Indian citizens or whose parents are not from India are regarded as foreign nationals. Application Process

The conducting IIT, IIT Kanpur, will issue the JEE Advanced 2025 application form following the publication of the JEE Main 2025 exam results.

Candidates who meet the requirements must first register on the JEE Advanced official website before completing the online application. Candidates must pay the application costs online after completing the JEE Advanced application form; the authority will announce the deadline.

Exam Pattern 2025

JEE Advanced 2025 will be conducted in online mode (computer-based test). The exam will consist of two compulsory papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of three hours duration. Both papers will cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.  

Given the time limit and the comprehensive nature of the exam, effective time management is crucial for success in JEE Advanced. The exam will be held on May 18, 2025, with the following timings:

• Paper 1: 09:00 IST to 12:00 IST
• Paper 2: 14:30 IST to 17:30 IST

PwD applicants will receive one hour of extra time for each paper.  

Each paper will have a total of 54 questions (18 questions in each subject). The question paper will feature a variety of question types, including:  

• Multiple-choice questions with a single answer

• Matching-type questions

JEE Advanced Counselling Process 2025

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct the JEE Advanced counselling process in June 2025. The counselling process involves several steps:  

• Registration: Candidates who qualify in JEE Advanced and hold a JEE Main rank must register for JoSAA counselling.
