BITSAT 2027

The entrance test for BITS Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. Unlike JEE it examines English and Logical Reasoning as well as PCM, and admission runs on the BITSAT score alone — there is no central counseling authority involved.

Who can apply

  • Class 12: Passed in the year of the exam or the previous year, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, plus adequate proficiency in English.
  • Minimum marks: At least 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together, and at least 60% in each of the three subjects individually.
  • First attempt rule: Candidates who have already taken admission at any BITS campus are not eligible to reappear for a better campus or branch.
  • Board: Any recognised board is accepted. Class 12 must be completed in the qualifying year — there is no gap-year concession beyond the previous year.
  • Direct admission: Board toppers of central and state boards are offered direct admission to a programme of their choice, independent of BITSAT.

Counseling, step by step

BITS runs its own admission process — there is no JoSAA or state counseling involved. Offers are released in iterations and the list moves substantially, so an early rejection is often not final. Holding a seat while waiting for an upgrade is normal and expected.

  1. 1

Apply to BITS with your BITSAT score and Class 12 marks

  2. 2

Fill in your campus and branch preferences in order

  3. 3

Admission lists are released in successive iterations

  4. 4

Accept an offer and pay the admission fee to hold your seat

  5. 5

Later iterations may upgrade you — waitlist movement continues for weeks

BITSAT 2027 — frequently asked questions

What are bonus questions?
If you answer all 130 questions before time runs out, you may opt for 12 extra questions — 4 each in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. You cannot go back to earlier questions once you take them, and the same +3 / −1 marking applies. They are a genuine scoring opportunity for fast, accurate candidates and a trap for everyone else.
Why does BITSAT test English and Logical Reasoning?
Those 30 questions carry 90 marks — nearly a quarter of the paper. JEE aspirants routinely under-prepare them because they are not in the JEE syllabus, and that is exactly where BITSAT ranks are won and lost.
How is BITSAT different from JEE Main?
It is faster — 130 questions in 3 hours against JEE's 75 — and it rewards accuracy at speed over deep problem-solving. It also has no central counseling: you apply to BITS directly with your score.
Do I need 75% in Class 12?
Yes. You need at least 75% aggregate across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and at least 60% in each individually. Unlike JEE there is no top-20-percentile alternative, so the board requirement is a hard gate.
Can I attempt both sessions?
Yes, and the better score is considered. Attempting Session 1 also tells you exactly how the interface and pacing feel, which is worth a good deal on its own.
Where do I check official updates?
