  • Class 12: Passed or appearing, with Physics and Mathematics for the PCM group, or Physics and Biology for the PCB group. Chemistry is required for both.
  • Minimum marks: Generally 45% in the relevant subjects for open-category candidates and 40% for reserved categories from Maharashtra. Confirm in the information brochure.
  • Domicile: Maharashtra-state candidates get the large majority of seats. Candidates from outside the state are eligible but compete for a much smaller quota.
  • Age: There is no upper age limit for appearing.

What to cover

A high-level checklist. Work through it with previous-year papers rather than reading it end to end.

Physics

  • Mechanics and Rotational Motion
  • Thermodynamics and Kinetic Theory
  • Oscillations and Waves
  • Current Electricity and Magnetism
  • Optics
  • Modern Physics and Semiconductors

Chemistry

  • Physical Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry

Maths / Biology

  • Trigonometry and Vectors
  • Calculus
  • Probability and Statistics
  • Botany (PCB group)
  • Zoology (PCB group)

Counseling, step by step

Admissions run through the Centralised Admission Process. Document verification happens before choice filling, not after — missing a document at that stage can cost you the round entirely, so get it done early.

  1. 1

Register for CAP (Centralised Admission Process) on the CET Cell portal

  2. 2

    Upload documents and complete verification

  3. 3

Fill in your college and branch preferences, then confirm them

  4. 4

Seat allotment runs over three CAP rounds

  5. 5

Report to the allotted college and pay the fee

MHT-CET 2027 — frequently asked questions

Is there negative marking in MHT-CET?
No. A wrong answer costs you nothing, which means you should attempt every question — leaving one blank is strictly worse than guessing. This is the single biggest strategic difference from JEE and NEET.
How much of the syllabus is from Class 11?
Roughly 20%, with the remaining 80% from Class 12. That weighting is official and stable, and it is why students who drop Class 11 revision entirely tend to lose easy marks.
Can I take MHT-CET if I am not from Maharashtra?
Yes, but the seat quota for candidates from outside the state is small, so the effective cut-off is much higher. If you are not domiciled in Maharashtra, treat it as a backup rather than a primary route.
Is MHT-CET easier than JEE Main?
The questions are generally more direct and closer to the state board syllabus, and there is no negative marking. But the competition for the top colleges is intense, so 'easier paper' does not mean 'easier admission'.
Can I use it alongside JEE Main?
Yes, and many Maharashtra students do. The syllabuses overlap heavily, so preparing for JEE Main covers most of MHT-CET — the adjustment is in pacing and in attempting everything rather than selecting.
Where do I check official updates?
